Welcome to Our Bedroom

After weeks of planning, 3 days of hard labor, and a full day of deliveries, our master bedroom is officially done! We have dreamed of renovating this space for so long, and even though it’s been complete since summer, it’s still so surreal that it’s finally finished! I seriously don’t think I’ll get over our master bedroom renovation. It feels so calming and relaxing every time I walk into it.

It’s currently my favorite room in the house. I spend more time here than anywhere else! I’ve shared quite a bit about the process on Instagram, but I’ve been so excited to share more with you!

Inspiration & Design Style

We’ve got plenty of renovation plans for our home, but Gary and I knew we wanted to start with the bedroom. We both work really hard and travel often, so it was essential for both of us to have a sanctuary we could return to.

My goal for this room was to create a space that was welcoming and cozy, yet upscale and dreamy. It was important to us to create a bedroom that functioned as more than just a space for sleep. To do that, we had to make some pretty significant changes. Our design goal was Organic Modern, and I’m glad we were able to achieve it.

Initially, this space included our original bedroom and my office, which was a separate room altogether. We knocked out that wall to open up the space, creating a bedroom with a gallery room that doubles up as our theater room. Ever since we finished this space, we have had the most challenging time leaving. It’s just that cozy.

For this bedroom, we wanted the design, furniture, and decor to:

  • Focus on warm, neutral colors and wood tones

  • Be bright and light during the day

  • Exude cozy vibes at night

  • Feel sophisticated but relaxed

  • Allow for easy updates and seasonal decorating through the year (we love changing up the decor for the season and wanted a base design that would allow for that - nothing too overpowering in the design)

  • Thoughtful storage to keep a minimal, put-together vibe without feeling cluttered or overwhelming

The Center of the Design: The Bed

A great bedroom starts with a great bed. We knew the entire design hinged on finding the right bed for the space. Since the bed takes up the most space in the room, nailing this piece of furniture was essential to me!

We were looking for something neutral and warm to set the mood for this space. Ideally, we wanted a furniture set that covered all the essentials versus finding individual pieces. A matching furniture set would make the room feel cohesive without a lot of effort on our end.

This Risk Paid Off… Big Time

I initially found this bed on the RC Willey website, which fit all my needs. In fact, the entire set was absolutely gorgeous and matched all my specifications perfectly. Unfortunately, there was no way I could see it in person, and even though I was so nervous to order it sight unseen, I went for it.

I am SO happy I did. The quality and design blew my expectations out of the water. The bed is exceptional. Cannot recommend RC Willey enough.

The headboard is one surprise feature of this bed. It features LED touch lighting that casts a soft glow over our bedroom without being too bright. It sets the mood at night but doesn’t prevent you from falling asleep. It also came with a footboard that included a bench seating and storage, which was a total win.

We opted for the entire Canyon Road Beige 4-Piece King Bedroom Set and an additional nightstand. The nightstands include their own outlets and USB chargers for easy device charging, cutting down on the need for extra cords and maintaining our minimalist vibe.

Additional Renovations

  • Increased the height of the curtains to make the room look bigger, and changed it to a double panel for a more sophisticated look.

  • Swapped out the ceiling fan for a modern light fixture

  • Replaced the tile floor with laminate wood flooring

  • Knocked out a wall to add a sitting/lounging area

  • Added the decorating framing and a wood beam around the archway

Our Haven: Office-Turned Bedroom Lounge Area

I like to call this area my little haven! It’s literally my go-to after a long day or when I simply want to catch up on my latest Netflix show. We decided on this area here because we needed a place of peace in our home, and this is precisely it.

To make this space happen, we knocked out the wall that connected my former office with our bedroom. Although it was a lot more work than we expected, it was so worth it!

The whole design of the room is centered around the gallery wall. To keep the organic modern design, we opted for a Samsung Frame TV, which displays artwork when it’s not being used so that it feels like it is part of the gallery wall. The Frame TV also fits very flush against the wall, and the cords can all be hidden, maintaining a sleek look.

I actually didn't plan any of the art in advance. Instead, we went to Target and Kirkland's and chose pieces that would fit the design of the space. I’m thrilled with how it came out!

Instead of an entertainment center, I used a dresser from the RC Willey Canyon Road collection to maintain a cohesive bedroom design. It also allows for plenty of additional storage space.

While we wanted minimal dark accents, I fell in love with the black side table we added to this space the moment I saw it. I’m happy with how great this clever pop of black looks in the otherwise very neutral room.

My favorite thing would have to be the loveseat. Technically called a “Cuddler,” it's deep, comfortable, and truly perfect in every way.
