Taking care of my hair is something of a passion of mine. I’m so happy with my hair's health, but I haven’t always felt that way! Getting the perfect routine took a lot of time and trial and error, but I’ve definitely locked it down! My hair has never been healthier, and I can finally go 5-7 days between washes.

I have compiled a list of my all-time favorite hair care products that keep my locks looking salon-perfect, 99% of which I have used for 2+ years, as well as plenty of tips and tricks. From shampoo to styling products, these items have been tried and true in my haircare routine.

Note About My Recommendations

The products and routines I recommend have worked wonders for my hair, but keep in mind that everyone’s hair is different! What works well for me might not work well for you.

To be fully transparent and help you decide what will work best for you, I want to share a few factors I consider when choosing products for my hair.

I’m Filipino and have Asian hair: My hair is sleek, straight, and very fine. That makes it more prone to damage, so I pick products that protect my hair.

I have a lot of hair: Even though it is fine, I have a ton of hair! Volume is a huge concern for me. I avoid products that weigh my hair down and love products that keep my hair bouncy.

I have extensions: For extra volume, I have extensions. I always choose products that are extension safe for this reason.

I bleach and color my hair: I have been bleaching and coloring since 2017. I see my stylist about once a month. I ensure my products are color safe and won’t dry out my hair to protect against damage!

I live in Vegas: Vegas weather is dry and thankfully mild on pollution. If pollution concerns you, you might need to add products that protect and treat pollution. Being in a drier climate, I am more concerned about moisture than humidity, but I get frizzy hair, so many of the products I recommend will work in multiple environments!

Must-Have In-Shower Hair Care Products

The products you use on wash day are, in my opinion, the most essential products you’ll choose! The foundation of my hair care routine, and the reason I can go so long in between washes, is 100% attributed to having perfected my in-shower routine.

Scalp Scrub - Coco & Eve Like A Virgin Deep Clean Scalp Scrub

If you’re not using a scalp scrub, this product will change your life! The Coco & Eve scrub is invigorating, cleans product buildup from your scalp, and helps to extend the time between washes.
As an added bonus, I’ve noticed much more growth since using this!
**How to Use**: Apply to wet hair directly from the tube in sections in the shower. Massage well for 30 seconds before rinsing thoroughly. You can repeat this step if your hair has a lot of build-up.

anti dandruff shampoo bottle — Shampoo for Flakey Scalp - First Aid Beauty FAB Anti-Dandruff Shampoo

When I moved from LA to Vegas in 2015, I developed dandruff for the first time. After trying quite a few options, this is it. This is the only anti-dandruff shampoo I’ve ever loved, and it actually works for me.
It’s sulfate-free, safe for color-treated hair, and doesn’t have to be used every few days to work like other anti-dandruff shampoos.
**How to Use**: Massage into wet hair at the scalp. Let sit for a few minutes. Rinse well. Repeat if needed.
*If you need an anti-dandruff shampoo, talk to your dermatologist!*

kerastase shampoo — Shampoo for Color Treated Hair - Kérastase Chroma Absolu Chroma Respect Shampoo

When my hair feels like it needs a little extra help, I use this shampoo.
Kerastase is perfect for color-treated hair. It keeps your hair very healthy and your color vibrant. It’s POTENT, so use a small amount at a time and build up to using more. Because you only need a tiny amount, a bottle lasts a long time.
**How to Use**: Emulsify before applying to your scalp. Rinse and REPEAT!

hair masque — Upgrade your Conditioner - Coco & Eve Like a Virgin Hair Masque

Okay, technically, this isn't a conditioner. It’s a hair mask, but I swear it’s WAY better than conditioner. I’ve been using it since 2015 and will never stray. This is a true holy grail product for me. I’ve recommended this to everyone, and I’ve heard no complaints so far!
It smells like summer, immediately untangles your hair, prevents split ends, and makes your hair ridiculously soft and smooth. It’s a great consistency and lasts me quite a few washes.
I leave it on while I do the rest of my shower routine, and in that time, it completely transforms my hair. You can even see the broken ends just falling off. Your hair will feel fresh and brand new. I seriously feel that because of this mask, I don’t have as much breakage, and it’s so affordable!

**How to Use**: Apply on your mids-ends and leave on for 7 or so minutes while you do the rest of your in-shower routine. Rinse VERY well for completely transformed hair. You can also leave it on overnight for extra moisture!

Protecting Your Hair

After washing and conditioning your hair, it’s time to protect and dry it. These are my go-to products to avoid breakage, reduce frizz, and keep my hair smooth.

I use this hair towel right out of the shower after I get the initial moisture out of my hair. It does hold my super long hair. It cuts about 10-20 minutes out of my drying time, and I only have to wear it for 2-5 minutes. It’s also better than a large towel because it doesn’t pull at your hairline and cause breakage.

Leave In Conditioner - Moroccanoil All In One Leave in Conditioner

This is the first thing I use after my hair is mostly dry. Spray mainly towards the ends of your hair. It detangles instantly and helps keep it smooth. The bottle lasts forever– I have owned mine for over a year!

**How to Use**: Spray mostly toward the ends of your hair.

The Only Brush You Need - Wet Brush Original Detangler

This brush is a lifesaver! I usually get super tangly hair, but with this brush, you won’t have that issue. It will brush right through! It’s also extension friendly, which is a must for me. This is the only brush I’ve ever used that doesn’t pull on my hair, thus giving me healthier hair and scalp.

hair elixer bottle — Holy Grail Heat Protectant - Coco & Eve Miracle Hair Elixir

This product is a game-changer! It’s my favorite hair product of all time– it’s a heat protectant, split end prevention, smoother, and softener all in one.

I use this product instead of a gel for a slicked-back bun or pony. It also works perfectly for flyaways!

Hair Tools That Work

Once your hair is smoothed and protected, it’s time to style! Hair tools are a must if you want that salon blowout look at home, but they can also be damaging if you aren’t careful! These tools are my tried and true for getting great hair without causing additional problems.

How to Use the Dyson Air Wrap for the Best At-Home Blowout

Using the dryer attachment, dry your hair to about 70%
Attach the curling barrel
In sections, use the curling barrel to form the curl
Leave in place for 15 seconds, or until your hair is fully dry
Set with a cold shot for longer lasting curls

revlon one step heat and curl tool — Affordable Blow-Out Option - REVLON One-Step Volumizer Enhanced

If you’re not ready to invest in a Dyson, this is a great option! The Revlon hair dryer has been around forever, and I still recommend it! You can get a super bouncy blowout look with this product. However, I recommend drying your hair 70-80% with a regular dryer before you use it to prevent breakage because it runs much hotter than the Dyson.

curling wand — For Tighter Curls - Hot Tools Pro Artist 24K Gold Curling Iron

The Dyson gives me a fluffy blowout, but if I want tighter curls, I use this iron. It has insanely good reviews, is under 50 dollars, and will last for years.

Products to Extend Your Style

Going 5-7 days between washes is a lifesaver! These are my favorite products for extending your style and helping your blowout last.

volume and texture spray — Volume that Lasts - Living proof Full Dry Volume & Texture Spray

I can not stop talking about this product because IT WORKS! So many of my friends and family buy this product again & again. Living Proof Full Dry Volume & Texture Spray will bring so much life back to your hair!
I like to use this product 2-3 days in a row post-wash day. It will build up enough that I don’t have to use it again until my next wash! You’ll literally wake up with goddess-like hair.
**How to Use**: Shake, apply in loose sections, a total of 4 (2 on each side), flip your hair over, and spray 1-2 inches in from your hairline. . Give it a little shake, flip it back over, and BAM. Instant volume!

wow hair spray — Crunch Free Hairspray - Color Wow Cult Favorite Firm + Flexible Hairspray

This is my must-have product for keeping my curls intact. I can genuinely tell the difference between days with this hairspray and days without. It’s the best flexible hairspray I’ve ever used! It never feels crunchy or crusty– just leaves you with beautiful curls that last!

**How to Use**: Spray it underneath the top layer of your hair around your part vs. the top, so it doesn’t weigh down your hair.

hair clips — Crease Free Clips - FRAMAR Pastel Alligator Hair Clips

A little add-on for your routine are these pastel clips. The claw holds well! One is strong enough to hold my entire head of hair. They don’t hurt, are extension friendly, and just work well! I like to use these to keep my hair in place while I allow my product to dry.

wide tooth comb — For Perfectly Brushed Out Curls - Kitsch Wide Tooth Comb

After all my products are dry, rather than brushing out my curls (which I find brushes out the product) or using my fingers, I use this wide-tooth comb. The comb helps keep everything sleek and smooth while separating curls without pulling or damaging hair.

Dry Shampoo That Actually Cleans - Living proof Dry Shampoo, Perfect hair Day Advanced Clean

For days 2-5, I use the Living proof Dry Shampoo Advanced. It came out about a year ago and is a different formula than their original Perfect Hair Day product. I can go 5-7 or MORE days without needing to wash. Truly THE BEST dry shampoo.

**How to Use**: Spray where you see oily areas. Shake well (really well) before spraying. Spray about 4-5 inches away to prevent white marks. Rub into the scalp.

Hair Wash Day Routine

Now that you have all the products you need, here is my wash day routine!

Wet hair.
Apply Coco & Eve Like A Virgin Deep Clean Scalp Scrub. Apply in sections directly from the bottle, then massage for at least 30 seconds. Repeat if necessary.
Rinse and apply First Aid Beauty Anti-Dandruff Shampoo or Kérastase Chroma Absolut Chroma Respect Shampoo. Repeat if necessary.
Rinse and apply Coco & Eve Like A Virgin Hair Masque. Let it sit for 5-7 minutes while you do the rest of your in-shower routine.
Rinse and dry hair lightly with a regular towel.
Use the hair towel while doing the rest of your after-shower routine.
Remove the hair towel and spray on the Moroccan Oil Leave-In Conditioner.
Brush hair using Wet Brush.
Apply Coco & Eve Magic Elixir.
Dry & style using Dyson Air Wrap or Revlon One-Step Volumizer and/or Hot Tools Curling Iron.
After styling, apply Living Proof Full Dry Volume & Texture Spray.
Apply Color Wow Cult Favorite Firm + Flexible Hairspray.
Let products dry, holding style in place with FRAMAR Pastel Alligator Hair Clips if desired.
Comb through using a wide-tooth comb to keep curls calm while preventing frizz.
Use a small amount of Coco & Eve Miracle Hair Elixir to tame baby hair and flyaways.

Hair Care Routine Between Washes

Days 2-7

Always braid your hair overnight or use a hair towel to protect it from breakage.
If you are not planning on washing your hair, keep it away from water in the shower.
