Our Experience At Lakehouse Hotel & Resort With Kids

We love the Lakehouse Hotel and Resort. Whether you're looking for a romantic getaway for you and your partner or a fun-filled California destination with the whole family (dogs included!), there's something for everyone at Lake San Marcos.

Gary and I enjoyed every moment of ourLakehouse retreat. When we needed an escape from the Las Vegas heat, we brought the boys down to spend quality time together for a little summer getaway.

When to Visit

Weather

Visiting in June, we expected warm days, but we ended up with a perfect 75 to 80 degrees throughout our stay, and no one complained! I recommend bringing sunscreen (linking my favorite one here) as you will be spending A LOT of time outside, enjoying some sunshine.

Drivability

When we visited Lakehouse in February, we drove from Las Vegas. It was a pretty smooth trip for two adults, but we decided to fly down with the kids along. Honestly, the next time we go, we will definitely fly! It ended up being our preferred way to travel here.

Landing at San Diego Airport, Lakehouse was only a 45-minute, super easy drive. We ended up renting a car from Turo. I would recommend a rental car because you will need a vehicle to get in and out of San Marcos.

Pro-Tip: I recommend renting an electric car. Lakehouse offers two chargers (1 standard and 1 Tesla), saving you time and money!

Accommodations

We stayed in a Premier Lake View Double-Queen room at Lakehouse Hotel and Resort and loved every bit of it! We chose the first floor this time, and I do like the view better from the first vs. the second floor. The second does get more privacy, but overall, we enjoyed the first floor better.

The room was very spacious, even with two teenage boys! I love that each room had a small fridge to stock up on drinks, snacks, etc. Like last time, each stay comes with a S'mores kit for the family, which we really enjoyed!

What To Do - Kid-Friendly Activities During Your Stay

We love that when staying at Lakehouse Hotel and Resort, there are always plenty of things to do, including kayaking, waterfront fire pits, paddle board adventures, and so much more.

Complimentary Bike Rentals

We started off our stay using the complimentary bike rentals right at the front desk of Lakehouse Hotel and Resort. We biked down the road to the Links at Lakehouse to enjoy some lunch, and it was a great way to get a few mins of bike riding and explore the neighborhood simultaneously.

Pool

Lakehouse Hotel and Resort has two pools, giving room for all guests to enjoy. This time, they had the pool bar open, which was super convenient for Gary and me. The pool area has plenty of lounge chairs, outdoor sofas, and fire pits for your family and friends to enjoy.

Marina

On our first afternoon, we rented a pontoon boat at the Lakehouse Marina for an hour to enjoy some sunshine on Lake San Marcos. We cruised around the lake for an hour, and the boys had a blast! Although we didn’t have our pup, Hudson, this time – they always welcome fur babies on their boats.

We have previously rented a Duffy boat and loved it as well. For more info on our previous rental, read more here.

The Links at Lakehouse

I cannot express how much we love The Links at Lakehouse. Just a short walk from Lakehouse Hotel and Resort, The Links at Lakehouse is the closest golf course to the resort and is also the home of The Grill.

The Links at Lakehouse is a 71-par, 6,400-yard mature golf course boasting incredible views and some of the best green we’ve played. Something to note: the course gets booked quickly! I recommend securing your tee time as soon as possible!

Both boys (14 and 11) got to play the course with us and loved it!

Where To Eat at the Resort & Beyond

Whenever we visit Lakehouse Hotel and Resort, we dine our hearts away at their nearby restaurants for both delicious food and convenience.

The Grill

Located at the Links at Lakehouse, the Grill offers a great variety of delicious food that can be enjoyed via dine-in, to-go, or room service. We always enjoy dining at the outdoor patio as it serves some of the best views of the course. Everything we have ordered from here has been delicious, no matter what time of day! Here is a more in-depth dining guide for your stay at the lake.

Amalfi Cucina

This stunning Italian restaurant is conveniently located on the same property as Lakehouse Hotel and Resort. Amalfi Cucina provides gorgeous lakeside views of Lake San Marcos. This time, they had a great outdoor fountain show during dinner for the guests to enjoy.

Everything we have ordered here has been a hit! I love their pizzas and fresh plates of pasta, but the make-your-own old-fashioned drink option is my favorite thing about this restaurant.

Make Memories at Lakehouse Hotel and Resort

Once again, Lakehouse Hotel and Resort went above and beyond our expectations! I highly recommend it if you need a premier California destination getaway.

Whether you’re looking for a romantic weekend, a family vacation, or a girls'/boys' vacay, this lakefront resort experience will fit all your needs.
